Kapamilya Late Primetime Shows Shaky on KANTAR ratings?

It's interesting how the primetime ratings in KANTAR has dramatically changed these past days. If you recall, ABS-CBN has been leading in the timeslot with huge gap from its competing soap operas in GMA Network. This Monday, things have changed…

It was usually a gap of 10-20% in the ratings with Kapamilya soap operas on the lead. When Temptation Of Wife, in the past weeks, has been changed from one schedule to another, it surprisingly remained high in ratings. Well the only show it can't get close in the fight is Ina, Kapatid, Anak. But when it competes with A Beautiful Affair, there are times TOW would win. When competing with Kahit Puso'y Masugatan, no doubt the Dennis-Marian-Glaiza starred always leads.

So everyone was intrigued with the concept of Pahiram Ng Sandali, at least from the end of the Kapuso citizens. When it had its pilot night, it registered 17.5% in KANTAR ratings. It went head to head with A Beautiful Affair. So we expected that the Dingdong-Lorna-Max-Cristopher-Alessandra starrer would have ratings much lower than the John Lloyd-Bea starred. To our surprise, A Beautiful Affair won but only with 19.3%, just 1.8% gap.

It's a big surprise because we predicted ABA to be the highest rater this season. It turns out that Ina, Kapatid, Anak is the "IT" soap for this season and all the other Kapamilya shows (except Princess and I) are on a shaky ground in the national ratings.

If GMA Network is wise enough, they would surely grab this season a chance to soar high in the national ratings and they'd exert extra effort to get their shows watched. Imagine, it's just a gap of 1-5% lately. That's unusual! It could be that the people in the provinces have been sleeping early and more Kapuso fans stay awake at that time. Or it could be that Kapuso soap operas in late primetime have been really capturing the hearts of the provincial viewers in Visayas and Mindanao.

What do you think?

PS. We excluded Princess and I in the picture for certain reasons that we would explain in the next feature.

What's On Primetime TV This 4th Quarter?

It's a battle of stories, depth, and acting for the 4th quarter of Primetime TV shows. To do a rundown, let's have a glimpse of what we are to expect weeknights on TV by their networks. We ranked them from first to last according to the interest it creates based on publicity and teaser.

Are you a Kapamilya? Scroll down for the list...

On GMA 7, the Kapuso feel.

1. Haram. CANCELLED!

An original concept, this is an innovative approach to bring change in the ever common plots of soap operas. It's still the typical 'leading lady falls in love with leading man' kind of soap. But the interesting twist is it tackles a Muslim-Christian love affair.
Watch the trailers of the GMA shows by clicking this.

One very interesting part of this soap is the inclusion of very good character actors Alessandra De Rossi and Neil Ryan Sese who both have shown impressive delivery in their previous primetime roles (Legacy & Munting Heredera consecutively).

Who's in it?
Lead: Dingdong Dantes & Kylie Padilla, Alessandra De Rossi, Neil Ryan Sese
The Veterans: Lorna Tolentino

Who's directing?
Maryo J. De Los Reyes

2. Temptation Of Wife
A Pinoy remake of the hit Korean soap, Marian Rivera is set to take back primetime. But she's not the reason why this comes second on our list. The reasons are as follows: Rafael Rosell is about to prove his worth in this soap. Dennis Trillo and Glaiza De Castro, both being able to tag in their names the label of able and good character actors, are set to deliver fiery antagonistic couple role in the show.

The good story is given. Credits to the Korean makers. But we have yet to see how the Pinoy makers meet the high standards.

Who's in it?
Lead: Marian Rivera, Dennis Trillo, Glaiza De Castro, Rafael Rosell
The Veterans: Cherie Gil & Rio Locsin, Rez Cortez & Raymond Bagatsing

Who's directing?
Dominic Zapata

3. Mariposa
Mark Reyes is more than just familiar in directing tween/teen stars. He has mastered it by growing a bunch of them in TGIS. He's also good at fantasy shows, hence, the reputation to earn the third spot. Based on the trailer, the show will not be totally fantasy which is a good thing. Forteza's role is expected to look human except the butterfly wings part.

What we like about this upcoming show is simply GMA's decision to rid the viewers off the Joshua-Bea tandem since the latter deserves a better acting partner. Yes, you read it right. The Outsider thinks that Joshua Dionisio is a bit behind the latter's acting. With the network's experiment on Luna Blanca, Derrick proved to be a better partner not only in the acting department but even aesthetically. Monasterio's height is of high consideration.

Who's in it?
Lead: Barbie Forteza & Derrick Monasterio
The Veterans: Agot Isidro, Maritoni Fernandez

Who's directing?
Mark Reyes

4. Coffee Prince
Three reasons why this show does not catch much interest. First, Sir Ricky Davao is set to direct after a not-so-impressive Makapiling Kang Muli. But the turnout of MKM cannot be solely blamed to his direction, story and script-wise, MKM really deserved to be in history. Let's leave the review of that show in another post.

Second, it's another remake! Two Pinoy remakes of a Korean soap in one season does not sound so enticing. The element of surprise is lost. GMA should learn from one of its unprecedented successes--One True Love. A filler primetime soap as they termed it, OTL managed to gain high amount of viewership because the element of surprise. The story is typical 'Romeo and Juliet' but tackled in a totally new angle and context. Again, we leave the review of OTL to another post.

Third, Ms. Kris Bernal is not cutting her hair short. We understand her reasons behind it, legal and very valid at that. But it does not erase the fact that the interest the show is supposed to get is now going lower all because she can't cut her hair short.

Fourth, nothing anymore. Three reasons are enough to put this on number four. Our hopes for this show are very obvious. That Aljur Abrenica would act act this time despite the light, comedy approach. That Benjamin Alves and Max Collins would prove their worth to be leads in their next show.

Who's in it?
Lead: Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal with Benjamin Alves and Max Collins
The Veterans: Celia Rodriguez, Tessie Tomas, Leo Martinez

Who's directing?
Ricky Davao

On ABS-CBN, the Kapamilya home.

1. A Beautiful Affair
An architect falls in love with an heiress in Vienna, Austria. John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo are set to take the bar higher on primetime TV. They're a tandem that doesn't need extravagant supporting cast because they both do very well already with just them. After the success of their film The Mistress, this soap will undoubtedly take most of the ratings on primetime.
Watch the trailer by clicking the photo.

Our prediction: this would be the number one most watched primetime soap in the last quarter of 2012 and not the Kim-Xian soap.

A drama soap opera, we're sure to watch a good show. Just bank on the names John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. Add to that the director of their very successful first soap together Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, Lauren Dyogi.

Who's in it?
Lead: John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo
The Veterans: Sorry to say this but the tandem can suffice.

Who's directing?
Lauren Dyogi and Katski Flores

2. Ina, Kapatid, Anak
Set to take the spot of Walang Hanggan in viewers' hearts, this soap has a lot to fill in. What's interesting about this show is the battle between Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador's characters. Not so much on Xian Lim and Enchong Dee's characters. They can be taken out of the picture honestly.

Tackling the struggles of two mothers, sisters, and daughters, the soap seems ready to get the Kapamilya fans hooked into something new and different from Walang Hanggan. The only thing that doesn't excite us is the leading men duo.

Another exciting thing about this soap is the veteran lineup. The battle between Janice De Belen and Cherrie Pie Picache is something to look forward to.

Who's in it?
Lead: Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador with Xian Lim and Enchong Dee
The Veterans: Cherrie Pie Picache, Janice De Belen, Ronaldo Valdez, Eddie Gutierrez, Ariel Rivera

Who's directing?
Don M. Cuaresma & Jojo A. Saguin

3. Little Champ
A boy and his horse. That's what we can basically expect from this soap. The boy is a newcomer but you can tell that he's good even by watching the trailer alone. The inclusion of Sen. Lito Lapid in this soap is not at all exciting for us with all due respect to him. But the fact that the son of the late Rudy Fernandez joins the cast makes this soap something to look forward to. We want to see how he's going to pull off being an actor.

Why number three? Because it's a new concept on primetime, period!

Who's in it?
Lead: Lito Lapid and Renz Fernandez with that new boy
The Veterans: Lito Lapid

Who's directing?
Dondon Santos

4. Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin
The Outsider almost got tempted to put this show on top because of Maricel Soriano's inclusion and Gerald Anderson's lead after the successful Budoy. But they're just not enough even with the entry of veteran godess Dina Bonnevie and the Encantadia diety Diana Zubiri.

We don't have any clue as to what the story will be yet but the inclusion of Cristine Reyes in this soap is a turn off without intending to offend the actress. For one, The Outsider did not see her performance in her last primetime soap with Piolo as remarkable. Maricar Reyes was remarkable despite being just the supporting cast on that show. Another thing is that her issue with her sister Ara Mina was really just a major turn off no matter which angle you would look at. But we hope her the best as she joins a stable lineup of cast.

Who's in it?
Lead: Gerald Anderson & Cristine Reyes with Diana Zubiri & Rayver Cruz
The Veterans: Maricel Soriano, Dina Bonnevie, Tonton Gutierrez

Who's directing?
Jerome Chavez Pobocan

Some observations...
  • The veterans are coming back.
  • GMA tries new pairs except Aljur-Kris tandem. ABS-CBN tries new pairs except John Lloyd-Bea tandem, a way stronger and more tested love team.
  • Both the fantasy series offerings of both networks have a fresh and interesting concept.
  • Ina, Kapatid, Anak story has slight similarity to that of Legacy--the Heart-Lovi-Alessandra starrer.
  • Looks like ABS-CBN has a stronger lineup in terms of lead stars lineup in the context of popularity and longevity.
  • Despite the return of EXTRA CHALLENGE, it's not much of a threat to ABS-CBN because GMA is putting it on the weekend primetime. If they consider adding it up on their weeknights slots, they might strike a stronger and more certain chance of winning in the ratings game this time.

3 Reasons Why Rafael Rosell Will Rise As Kapuso

Yes, Rafael Rosell is now officially a Kapuso. Despite the fact that GMA 7 has not released an official statement or update about this, Rafael Rosell's tweets make it already obvious.

We've already made a feature about him in the past days about his role in Temptation of Wife. And now that it's more like it, he's most likely landing the role of one of the leading men in the Pinoy remake of this koreanovela.

But we're not here to talk about his projects and all. We're here to give you three reasons why Rafael Rosell will rise as a Kapuso. Here we go...

1. He has the 'it.' ABS-CBN would not have invested in him had he not have that 'it' factor. The reason why he's still here is because he has it. He's a character actor. He has played roles effectively as a Kapamilya. He's one who does roles with so much passion. Put him anywhere and he can deliver.

2. He's managed by Marian Rivera's manager. Nuff said!

3. He's a Star Magic talent. And you know the drill… Wherever you put them, they will soar for as long as they'll do their part! Credits to their originating training management--Star Magic.

To Mr. Rafael Rosell, the newest Kapuso, haters will follow you but that's the way it goes. We wish you the best!

Why Kapuso-to-be Rafael Rosell Is For RH Bill

His recent tweets have been about RH Bill. No mention of a new season in his life, a new chapter, or anything that leads to a thought of transferring to a new network. Rafael Rosell, one of Star Magic's priced possessions, is slated to take on a new path in his life, a change of network.

And while everyone else is waiting for that big interview about his transfer, we've decided to share his views on the recent political fuss--the RH BILL and how he shares the same feeling with blogger

RH Bill: Pros and Cons

Okay so I'm done with the definition and the history of the RH Bill, I've also discussed where it stands now with the current Aquino administration but I feel that I need to elaborate the implications that the bill comes with. So far there are 14 guiding principles that serve as the framework of the RH Bill, if I put all of that in here I will be wasting both your time and mine since I know you won't be reading it. So instead of enumerating each of the bill's principles, I decided to weigh in its pros and cons so in that way, it is interesting and stimulating at the same time!

I have to be honest, I had a pretty hard time being objective with this one since as you may have guessed by now, I am definitely pro-RH Bill but nevertheless here is what I have so far:

PROS

1. It gives a person freedom to choose whatever he wants
2. It is 100% pro-chance
3. It will greatly contribute to the prevention of HIV and Aids
4. It will help control the country's booming population
5. It will increase awareness regarding responsible parenthood
6. It will secure and promote both women's and children's rights
7. It will provide health care services for the poor and the marginalized
8. It will provide adolescents enough information about all the dangers of engaging in pre-marital sex
9. …and hopefully this will decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies that leads to abortion

CONS

1. It grants easier access to contraceptives even for adolescents
2. It will definitely increase the percentage of couples engaging in pre-marital sex

So this is basically it. This is all that I can think of. I told you I would have a hard time enumerating the different disadvantages of the RH Bill because I can only think of few (By few, I literally mean two). This does not make me a bad Catholic or anti-life but this makes me realistic. Hello people! You need to open your eyes and realize that we need to do something to control the rapid increase of our population. I know that it does go against the will of our Father but think about it, the entire country is suffering because of other people’s lack of knowledge about these certain things.

You may think I am being mean or something but I get irritated whenever I see couples crying on national television, complaining that they do not have enough money to support their ten kids. Then after which the wife will say, “sana tulungan po kami ng panginoong Diyos.” Well then, they should have thought about that before deciding to have so many children. God is there to guide us all the way but it is still up to us to make our own decisions in life. These people (the poor and the marginalized) need the RH Bill to further broaden their knowledge regarding responsible parenthood and sex in general. People would often joke about these kinds of situations and say “wala kasi silang magawa kaya nagaanak nalang sila.” That is not a valid excuse! We do our part in the society now it is time for them to do the same thing. ★
Rosell surely received various reactions from his followers when he tweeted this. But just like any other ordinary person, he too has his own opinion and he is, like the cliche goes, entitled to his own. To each his own as they say.

On the other hand, the showbiz world is definitely looking out for him, waiting for that appearance to finally announce his new path. Is this final? PEP.ph reported that he's doing a short role in Aso Ni San Roque and after that a major role alongside Marian Rivera in the Pinoy remake of Temptation Of Wife with Dennis Trillo and Alessandra De Rossi. If this materializes, this primetime soap will surely capture a wide viewership given the acting prowess of the Trillo, De Rossi, and Rosell along with the primetime dominance of Rivera.

Is Rafael Rosell really becoming a Kapuso? Or is it another "Diether Ocampo" stunt? One thing is certain, he's for RH Bill. We wonder who else are and otherwise.

Will Marian Rivera's Temptation Of Wife Be Tempting?

News has it that Marian Rivera alongside Dennis Trillo have been chosen to be lead cast in the Filipino remake of Korean drama Temptation Of Wife. Will it tempt viewers to watch it or otherwise?

In a PEP Alert released yesterday, it was announced that GMA Network Entertainment Department is planning to showcase another Koreanovela remake this year after Coffee Prince remake has been announced days ago. It can be remembered that Temptation Of Wife garnered very high ratings when it was shown in the afternoon slot. After months, it was replayed and surprisingly hit the primetime slot. Despite the fact that it was a replay, it still garnered remarkable ratings.

A simple but complex story of romance, friendship and betrayal. Simple because it revolves around three major characters--the lead actress as wife, the lead actor as husband, and the supporting actress as mistress and bestfriend. Complex because as her husband chooses to kill her, she manages to survive and come back as the lookalike but in reality she was still the wife.
Watch the old trailer of Temptation Of Wife

Will Marian Rivera be able to portray the subtly angry and bitter character of the wife? Will their team up as partners avenging each other be a good recipe in primetime viewing?

From the comments at pep.ph, people seem to have different opinions not only about the show but also about the cast.

We question… Will this be a good follow-up for both Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo as they return in Kapuso primetime?
