Is James Reid going to be the new Captain Barbell?
Fit, full of çharisma, impressive looks. These are some of the predominant characteristics of what embodies an actor who can portray Pinoy superhero character Captain Barbell. And since Mars Ravelo has given the right to ABS-CBN to produce this one, James Reid is by far the most qualified in the camp.
But what about the rumors? Xian Lim. JC De Vera. Ejay Falcon. All of them remain to be rumored names. But it's not difficult to conclude that Reid has a far better advantage compared to everyone else on the list.
After On The Wings of Love, this could be the perfect project for JaDine. We place our bets on it.

Derek Ramsay and Anne Curtis in Ex With Benefits: No not Anne!
Derek Ramsay stars with Anne Curtis. Oh snap! It's not Smith. If it's not her then who? A copycat? Depends. But yes, it's not Smith. It's Colleen Garcia and we wonder why on earth is Viva and Star Cinema giving her such a break.
Here's the trailer of their for adults movie.

Why Can't They Produce Movies for Judy Ann Santos?
Why can't Star Cinema or Regal Films produce great movies for Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo? She has always proven in every project she has that she can pull off with flying colors the roles given to her.
In the episode tonight of Maalaala Mo Kaya with hashtag #MMKMothersQuest, Judy Ann nailed it! Every scene was full of emotion. She is a real actress.
We bet our cards on this episode that this will be tonight's highest rater both in AGB Nielsen and Kantar. She deserves the win!
So why aren't we seeing movies with Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo as lead star? Because the market is focused on consuming romantic movies that would make them smile both in their teeth and in their hearts. Gone are the days of great movies that go beyond just romance. The days of Jose Rizal, Tanging Yaman, Bagong Buwan, Anak, Magkapatid and all others. Gone are their days.
But why can't movie producers bring that age back? Precious actors like Judy Ann become a waste because they're not given a material that would showcase their acting prowess. Indie film industry gives that but come on, Mrs. Santos-Agoncillo deserves a mainstream audience.

You're My Boss, Star Cinema's way of putting that GMA Films Sucks!
If anything, You're My Boss is surely not a spinoff of GMA Films flop movie My Lady Boss (oh did I say flop coz almost all movies they had were flop after they stopped producing epic movies). Starring the Toni Gonzaga and the leading man 'who needs a leading lady to pull up the gross income' Coco Martin, You're My Boss is something to watch out for this 2015 based on trailers.
As excited as we are to watch this movie, it's undeniable that this film has semblance with My Lady Boss which starred Marian Rivera and Richard Gutierrez. If you remember, that movie was a teamup that people looked forward to except that it was delayed because of the Sarah Lahbati-GMA Network controversy. GMA Films, however, decided to release the film despite unsettled matters. Because of such, the movie went nowhere aside from the fact that the film outfit really lacks a lot of things in terms of making movies popular. (to clarify, Marian Rivera was not at fault at all... Just in case Marianknights would react)
My Lady Boss earned more than P20million... only! That's a run of two weeks. The Toni-Coco starrer will make history for sure. But as you see the semblance, it makes you think that Star Cinema's upcoming movie is their way of putting that GMA Films sucks big time in wasting great concepts by doing a really bad execution both in filmmaking and promotions.
As an outsider, whether Star Cinema intends to 'in your face' GMA Films or not, we prefer to think that GMA Films really sucks big time! Wasted concepts. Wasted money. Wasted films. Gone are the days of Jose Rizal, Muro Ami, Sa Pusod Ng Dagat, Death Row, Moments of Love and the most successful Let the Love Begin (which has a 2015 remake).

What KathNiel Fans Think of Crazy Beautiful You on Twitter
It's no surprise that Star Cinema's Crazy Beautiful You earned big on day 1 of showing. The writers have managed to elevate the tandem of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla to a more substantial storyline.
This is why comments about the recent KathNiel film have changed. From just tweetums reason to watch the movie in the previous films, the fans have more to say this time. We asked them on Twitter what they think about this movie, and here's what some of them said.

Angel Locsin is Coming Home this 2015
Last week, we put you at the edge of your seats when we posted a tweet about Angel Locsin finally returning to her home. And since it has been clarified by writers days ago that she is not returning as Kapuso, we will finally tell you the reason why we made that tweet.
She is not returning as Kapuso unlike Iya Villania-Arellano and Empress Schuck this year. But she's definitely coming home to where she belongs-- to the silver screen, the movies.
Last November 7, an Instagram photo came about with Angel Locsin and Olivia Lamasan together. Then rumors came out that she would star in a movie with Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos by 2015. Today, Boy Abunda confirms it with his article at Pilipino Star Ngayon that Locsin is indeed to star in a Mothers' Day presentation of Star Cinema alongside Santos.
Why the Movies is her home
The reason why we call the movies her home is because Angel Locsin seems to have shifted big time career-wise. For the past years, since she transferred to ABS-CBN, it feels like she belongs to the silver screen more than the TV sets. Yes, her shows like The Legal Wife has made some noise but they weren't as loud as her movies did.
Admit it, TV is more like for younger stars these days. On the opposite side, silver screen is for more mature stars like Bea Alonzo and Angel Locsin.
There you have it! Angel Locsin is not going back to GMA Network just because she's being offered Darna again in ABS-CBN/Star Cinema. But she's going home in 2015 back to where she now belongs, the movies.

Will Skylight Films' Bromance Fly after My Cactus Heart Flopped?
Even fans of Maja Salvador, Matteo Guidecelli, and Xian Lim can attest that Skylight Films' My Cactus Heart was not only a flop gross-wise, it was also a flop movie-wise.
I don't know what has gotten into the minds of the movie crew but this movie featured a bizarre Matteo Guidecelli in a really bad way. In this movie, he proved that he couldn't act at that time and that all he could do was delivery his lines in a very corny way. That's our biggest complaint! Maja was not ready for this film. But Xian Lim already proved early on that he could act and deliver his role well even when it's an insignificant role. The story was good but storytelling was bad. Too bad sleep was something I preferred during the movie.
Here's how this movie scored according to Box Office Mojo's final tally.
Having said this, The Outsider is quite interested in how Bromance will score. It's still Skylight Films but with a new director this time, blockbuster director this time.
Will Skylight Films be able to pull off another attempt at partnering with Star Cinema? Without putting another flop movie to the very short list of Star Cinema's flop films? Let's see!

Zanjoe Marudo's Gay Peg In Launching Movie
Star Cinema and Skylight Films have collaborated for a comedy film that will feature Zanjoe Marudo as the lead actor for the first time. And for the first time also, he's playing a dual role, an 'astig' and 'mahinhin'.
Yes, you read it right! Zanjoe Marudo is playing his first ever gay role as the twin brother of a straight guy. The film is entitled Bromance, short for my brother's romance. Directed by Wenn Deramas, this one is sure to make waves again in the box office. Trailer alone already looks fun…ny!
So who could be Zanjoe's peg for his gay role? Could it be Vice Ganda? We're not yet sure until we hear it directly from the lead actor himself.
One thing's for sure though, Vice Ganda is singing the theme song of the movie. The song is entitled Kara-karaka which is also being used in the movie's trailer. Here are snippets from the shooting taken from the film's official Facebook page.
A sure hit, will this exceed the highest-grossing film of Star Cinema so far? Let's watch out this May 2013!

3 Remarkable Things In "The Mistress"
With the movie earning more than P100million on its first week, no doubt Star Cinema's The Mistress is a huge success in the history of Philippine movies. But what made it so successful?
The Outsider will not answer that question because it's given. What we will tackle instead are the five remarkable things from the movie.- Bea Alonzo's subtle delivery, a revelation. She stunned the audience with her performance. With not much lines all throughout the movie, no shouting, she did very well in playing her character. It was subtle yet so moving especially for the moviegoers. She brought the viewers into her character's heart, she made them dive into the depth of her role instead of doing flashy scenes.
- Smooth transitions from one scene to another, thanks to the expertise of Ms. Olivia Lamasan, the movie's director. It was smooth! The way scenes were stitched was outstanding that even when there's a change of scene, the viewers' emotions won't be cut short. This is where GMA Films fails most of the time. Credit to Star Cinema for not rushing the movie.
- The story is well-researched. After watching the movie, you would assume that the writers had a good grasp of what mistresses have to live with and how most of them actually have reasons worthy of empathy. Not that the movie justified mistresses, but it gave people a reason to be compassionate to them. That instead of judging them, more than anything they need compassion, they need love. And this compassion could be their path to redemption, to change, to realize that they need to make their acts right.
*John Lloyd's shirtless scene was awkward. Granted that it was supposed to be for Derek Ramsay, The Outsider thinks that it should have been left at that.
*Just that.
All in all, we thank director Lamasan for giving Filipino moviegoers a high-quality and substantial film way beyond the ordinary. In a nutshell, without the motive of comparing, we would describe The Mistress as the elite version of No Other Woman which was more of a palengkera story despite the rich women's characters.

Why "The Mistress" Is Sure Blockbuster Hit
One does not even have to think twice if The Mistress would be a blockbuster hit. It's just so sure to be a big hit!
But really... why? Here are some of The Outsider's assumptions.- It's been years since the John Lloyd-Bea Alonzo team up! The thrill of seeing them again on silver screen itches the fans. We means, the HUGE number of fans!
- It's STAR CINEMA. We have this theory called The Star Cinema Spell. We think that Star Cinema has been able to establish its name in producing good films that even when some of their films aren't good, people still watch it and like it. But this one is not one of the spells. We're sure this is good! With the presence of Hilda Koronel, this is certainly a film of high quality.
- It's the MISTRESS theme again. Last year, movies with this theme became a hit. Regal's My Neighbor, My Wife became one of the remarkable films of last year. After that came Star Cinema's No Other Woman which brought in unexpected waves of income for the film outfit.

What's good about this film is that it promises to tackle a controversial 'mistress' theme but keeps the wholesome part in tact. News has it that John Lloyd's character was first assigned to Derek Ramsey but due to his transfer to TV 5, the role was given to JLC. Had it been given to the latter, this movie would lose its wholesome factor. Derek Ramsey's presence in the film would make it steamy as opposed to John Lloyd Cruz who, no matter how he's packaged as hot or sexy, would still remain to be wholesome in total package. And yes, despite the Shaina-brought-to-hospital-after-sex-accident intrigue came out.To Star Cinema, this one is another win.
