Beautiful Strangers, On The Wings of Love & My Faithful Husband: Which One Prevailed?

This is not a Kapamilya versus Kapuso post. This is just simple truth that leaves you reasons to make a choice.

For On the Wings of Love, Beautiful Strangers, and My Faithful Husband, no soap opera is better than the other. The reason why we’re putting these three shows in one pedestal because they all had its pilot at the same night. Usual response from the viewers is to compare them. But last Monday was different. They are incomparable to each other.

Why can’t we compare the three?

Beautiful Strangers is not after viewers going ‘gaga’ over ‘kilig’ scenes. The show is after viewers who are looking for intense storylines with characters having to compete among one another. The likes of Amor Powers vs. Claudia in the remake of Pangako Sa Yo. Given a consistently good scriptwriting and well-crafted lines between the characters of Dina Bonnevie and Ayen Laurel and of Heart Evangelista-Escudero and Lovi Poe, this soap opera will be a masterpiece to the viewers’ hearts for sure.

GMA Telebabad was able to do that during the time of Legacy which starred the same tandem as well of Lovi and Heart. But that soap didn’t get as much hype as it deserved because it was pitted against an already strong force Magkaribal with Bea Alonzo, Gretchen Barretto and Derek Ramsay. Hopefully this time, the competition between the characters will be more talked about.

On the Wings of Love is the soap that goes after viewers who are in for a romantic ride. James Reid and Nadine Lustre are more than ready to deliver after consecutive blockbuster romantic movies under VIVA Films. With naturally good portrayals from the first few episodes, this soap opera will surely steal the hearts of the viewers who are after a light drama series late at night. Indeed, ABS-CBN was right in labeling this one as 2015’s most romantic teleserye. It really is!

This is also for people who would like to watch scenes from the United States of America. The way they did it is awesome. First time on Philippine TV to have a soap opera shot in US that looks legit. The last time was with Marvin and Jolina that didn't showcase most of the location.

My Faithful Husband is not after only one type of viewer. This masterpiece by Suzette Doctolero (headwriter) and Bb. Joyce Bernal (director) is something for all viewers. Talk about ‘kilig’ scenes, the characters of Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado have that in the early part of the story. But these scenes are about to end so better back-watch already before it takes a wild turn.

Talk about ‘tagos sa puso’ scenes like when Jen’s character was questions the character of Dennis why a man like him would like a woman like her. Talk about intense scenes when the role of Snooky Serna would confront the wife of her son.

My Faithful Husband is so far the best that viewers can have this year. It’s new. To date, these are the best TV roles given to Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado. Something real. Something more relevant to viewers. Something well-written. The good thing about it is the roles were given to them at just a perfect time when Jennylyn has proven her worth already in the acting department. And when Dennis Trillo started getting tired of the roles he has gotten, this one is a breather, something with depth.

Again, we repeat, the three shows can not be compared to each other. But The Outsider says that if you were to single out one soap for lack of time every night to watch of for not having the luxury of time to watch online for its replay, faithfully pick My Faithful Husband because it will deliver almost everything you will ask for. We just can’t wait to witness the martyrdom of Trillo’s role in this soap and the dilemmas the role of Mercado will face when the character of Mikael Daez comes into the picture.

But if you’re just after a lighter one, make sure to pick On The Wings of Love. Occasionally if you want some acting showdown, watch Beautiful Strangers.

If only these TV shows run just weekly but for an hour or an hour and a half per episode. It would be better at least we can watch all of them.

Daniel Matsunaga Returns to Leading Man Status as Kapamilya

His first time to star as the leading man of a soap opera was the pre-primetime series that paired Daniel Matsunaga with Heart Evangelista. He played as pilot while Heart portrayed the role of a flight attendant in Langit Sa Piling Mo. GMA Network missed out on the opportunity to build up a highly potential big star by not giving him acting projects after that. Now, it's ABS-CBN who will benefit from this potential.

After becoming popular from being a housemate, Kapamilya network tried out his potential in acting by adding him as an extended character in the defunct Two Wives.

It worked. And even to Matsunaga's lovelife, it did. Now that the DanRich tandem has an ample following, the network is giving them their own teleseries via Be My Lady-- a potential to beat Be Careful With My Heart.

ABS-CBN knows how to make things viral. Make a production number that has appeal to the viewers, make sure it has been trensing in the past days before the prod, and post it on Youtube and wonders come instantly. The recent: Twerk It Like Miley lipsync production number featuring Enrique Gil and Maja Salvador.

In less than a week, this video has gained almost three million views on Youtube. That's gigantic especially when you compare it to any viral video from GMA Network's Youtube page which may have required months or a year for it to reach millions of views.

PBB737 Lineup of Housemates Perfect for Artista Search

Kuya is opening his house again tonight via PBB 737. But before tonight, ABS-CBN has strategically introduced some of their new housemates already through their shows It's Showtime, TV Patrol, and Aquino & Abunda. We say: what a buildup!

Early prediction: We feel like the next Gerald Anderson & Kim Chiu will come from this batch. The next TV & movie stars.

Why is it called PBB 737?
It's simply because Kuya will welcome two groups of people for the whole duration of the season. But he's not getting them in all at one single time. For tonight we've witnessed the teen housemates get inside the house.

7 - Because the teen housemates will stay in the house for the first seven weeks.
3 - Because after the first seven weeks, a new group of housemates composed of celebrities and adults will be welcomed and probably in a separate space while the teens are in another space.
7 - Because the last seven weeks (3 weeks after featuring the 2nd group) will combine them altogether.

So while people await the moments inside the house to be publicly accessible, here are our observations ahead of time:

VIVA is about to make the name SARAH big. This time, in the name of Sarah Lahbati.

After coming back to GMA Network since the conflict, Sarah Lahbati has decided to transfer to a new management from GMA Artist Center to VIVA.

Last night she was very excited for it.

Just what does it mean for her to be with the established management company now?

1. Movies. Not just movies but blockbuster hits.

2. Roles that will hit the households for sure on TV. Whether GMA or ABS-CBN, Sarah is sure to land roles that will be big. Look at Bela Padilla who is now paired with Coco Martin.

It might be better strategy though to make her stay in GMA Network since there are many slots to fill for full reign. But VIVA knows better.

3. Albums that sell. She has a singing voice and an image that can make it sell. So there you have it.

So Philippines, now that she's with VIVA...

Dreamscape Decides to Wait for Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo

ABS-CBN is indeed waiting for Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo for the project meant for her. How nice of her network to do so.

Meanwhile, Richard Yap will be assigned to another TV series aside from the one he's doing with Enchong Dee for Wansapanataym.

Richard Yap understands the reason for postponement. In fact, he has this to say from his interview with ABS-CBNnews.com:

“In a way, of course [may panghihinayang]. Kasi everyone was ready to start the show already. Lahat kami naghihintay na. Actually nakapag-pilot taping na rin kami. But since it’s for her health, siyempre naiintindihan namin ‘yun."

This is the second time this year that a TV project faces changes. GMA Telebabad's The Richman's Daughter which was for Marian Rivera was also close to postponement. But the Kapuso Primetime Queen opted that the network would push through without her since the artists have already rejected other projects for it..

The difference between that one and this one is Someone To Watch Over Me has not done many tapings yet. Also, the story is not divulged yet that's why it's fine to postpone it.

We wish ABS-CBN's Queen of Drama well in her pregnancy.

Oh My G, going Oh My Golly?

Many fans have had enough of Oh My G which stars Janella Salvador. This daily series replaced the phenomenal Be Careful with My Heart but the replacement didn't seem to level up with the former. Add to that the negative sentiments of many fans as the show is approaching the end of the line.

We felt like this calls for a post because at first we were impressed that ABS-CBN came up with something substantial and beyond just goodie-goodie romantic love kind of TV series. We were impressed that it started to focus on Janella's character and G (which basically represents God). However, it seems like they were just off to a good start but not a good end at that.

Read up the comments of some fans and see how the story progressed or a better term may be 'regress' right?

Now some fans may say that these are just haters pretending to be fans. Admit it though that what they are saying are basically simple truth about the show.

Sad to say, Philippine TV is still not ready for a more substantial storyline. They still have to romanticize everything as in everything. Or should we say, that's always the route of Kapamilya think tank, isn't it?

Who is Pangako Sa 'Yo Remake For?

After watching last night's (June 15, 2015) episode of Pangako Sa 'Yo, we realized something. This 2015 remake is not exactly for the ones who have watched it 15 years ago. It's a classic story from two decades ago being retold for today's generation.

It's not for those who at their teens enjoyed the whirlwind romance of Angelo and Yna played by Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa. It's for those who want to story itself but told in this generation's style, culture and timeline.

So after realizing this, we've come up with a guide for dummies on HOW NOT TO WATCH PANGAKO SA YO Remake:

1. Do not look for Jericho Rosales & Kristine Hermosa schools of acting. Gone are the days of the emotional guy whose tears are easy to fall care of Echo himself. This is now Daniel Padilla's turn to showcase the character he perceives from the script. Gone are the days of the deep thinking and strong but knows-her-place look of Kristine Hermosa. This is now Kathryn Bernardo's turn of depicting a character she thinks who Yna is. Give it to them.
2. Do not stop yourself from getting 'kilig'. Don't be age-conscious and say you're too old to feel something from the latest tandem-- KathNiel. It's ok. You are not alone. After that episode which featured Daniel Padilla as Angelo directly telling Yna that he likes her, just think about the countless scenes still to come. So be ready to be yourself.
3. Do not question the placement of characters and their timeline. Some if not most of you who've seen the original piece may be wondering why the character of Mr. P came out real soon. Now we're not sure if he's the Tony Banks (played by Ricky Davao) but his character didn't appear early on. Leave it to the writers though as to how they want to tell the story. It's their script, it's their timeline.
4. Do not expect Tata Isko to be as phenomenal as before. It was the actor himself at that time that made the character popular. Now we don't believe Jericho Rosales was offered that role for the remake. You know ABS-CBN and their promotional schemes.
5. Do not wait for the Claudia vs. Amor Powers show before you watch Pangako Sa Yo 2015. The soap opera is now getting high ratings despite not having them yet. We tell you, this remake will raise the bar in terms of the romance between characters Angelo and Yna. Unlike the original which was more me-and-you-against-the-world serious type scenes, this one will have more scenes that will put you back to your teenage years. The writers will make sure you fall in love with the tandem first before the world goes against them brutally.

We certainly have comments here and there like how Angelica Panganiban's portrayal of Claudia is similar to her character portrayal in the movie Beauty in a Bottle. But we choose to say the least of that and just enjoy the remake.

Meanwhile, enjoy this throwback scene of Amor Powers versus Claudia Buenavista.

Is Liza Soberano the next Darna?

Rumor has it that budding Kapamilya superstar Liza Soberano is set to be a real superstar via Mars Ravelo's Darna. Will Kapamilya fans be in favor for this?

Among all the Kapamilya stars, seems like Liza is the one perfectly fit for this. She deserves to be popular by herself and not in a loveteam especially if the partner is a narcissist.

Fly Liza. She deserves that. If they give her Darna, ABS-CBN will have a strong roster of leading ladies alongside Kathryn Bernardo who is already making waves in the romcom and drama department.

ABS-CBN Continues Comic Weekend Primetime with Funny Juan

The comic formula for ABS-CBN's weekend primetime will not end as Your Face Sounds Familiar culminates its first season. As they have seen it working for GMA Network via comedy shows Pepito Manaloto, Vampire ang Daddy Ko and Celebrity Bluff, ABS-CBN brings to game to another level. Instead of coming up with sitcoms, they're airing a reality competition in search for the next TV comedian via Funny Juan.

Hosted by returning Kapamilya Bayani Agbayani and PBB product Jason Gainza, the network has spent resources for the past months to gather comedians who are willing to face challenges every weekend to make people laugh.

Melai Cantiveros, the Kapamilya Comedienne Who Must Stay

The inclusion of Melai Cantiveros in Your Face Sounds Familiar is a perfect d9ecision. Not only that her presence compensates for the lack of fun from other artists but she also is given a chance to showcase what she's got.

This woman can make us laugh. Like real laughter. Philippine television needs more of her. ABS-CBN needs her since they only have Angelica Panganiban in that genre.

We think that Melai has something more to offer. Her presence is just a delight on TV.

Look at her on tonight's episode. She nailed that Elizabeth Ramsey impersonation.

Melain Cantiveros is one whose name should stay for a long time in showbiz. We can imagine her following the footsteps of Michael V. from the Kapuso camp. 

We will say this: she has definitely something more to contribute to this industry. So calling all the think tank of Kapamilya camp, here's one to be utilized.

Why Can't They Produce Movies for Judy Ann Santos?

Why can't Star Cinema or Regal Films produce great movies for Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo? She has always proven in every project she has that she can pull off with flying colors the roles given to her.

In the episode tonight of Maalaala Mo Kaya with hashtag #MMKMothersQuest, Judy Ann nailed it! Every scene was full of emotion. She is a real actress.

We bet our cards on this episode that this will be tonight's highest rater both in AGB Nielsen and Kantar. She deserves the win!

So why aren't we seeing movies with Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo as lead star? Because the market is focused on consuming romantic movies that would make them smile both in their teeth and in their hearts. Gone are the days of great movies that go beyond just romance. The days of Jose Rizal, Tanging Yaman, Bagong Buwan, Anak, Magkapatid and all others. Gone are their days.

But why can't movie producers bring that age back? Precious actors like Judy Ann become a waste because they're not given a material that would showcase their acting prowess. Indie film industry gives that but come on, Mrs. Santos-Agoncillo deserves a mainstream audience.

Why Nathaniel will Soar High

A new soap opera is about to go phenomenal. It's not the heartthrob priest. Not the brothers under the bridge. Not even the teenage lovers who once had forevermore. But it'snone other than the fallen angel Nathaniel.

With the history of success ABS-CBN has had with TV series that revolve mainly in two things-- a kid wonder and goodness, Kapamilya fans can expect that this one will be successful too. In fact, we think that this will be more successful than the one with Paulo Avelino and that other kid.

The good parts
Let's enumerate some of the good parts of this soap which are most likely to drive interest from the viewers.
-The role of Coney Reyes is enough to create tension every weeknight. Her line, "Yayaman ka" will certainly be a household expression.

-The kid they chose is really a kid wonder just by looking at him without having him say a line.

-Isabelle Daza is someone to watch out for as she brings in her charm she always had back in Kapuso camp.

-The story of a fallen angel may not be new since GMA Network had Pilyang Kerubim before but ABS-CBN has the experienced scriptwriters who know well how to make it more interesting than just a fallen angel story.

The parts that can be improved
-That scene when Shaina was giving her speech in the wake of her baby, that was not realistic. A grieving mother wouldn't be able to deliver a long and wordy speech at that.
-Gerald Anderson does it again. His voice acting is just really annoying. He lowers the pitch that makes him sound unnatural. Oh well.

In general, this soap will really soar high. Filipinos will have another soap opera to remind them that God is alive and that there is sure hope.

Forevermore's Sitio La Presa Now a Tourist Attraction

Thanks to ABS-CBN's Forevermore, people residing in Sitio La Presa, Benguet are now busier entertaining tourists. Stalls are now around the corner varying from food items to souvenir items. Truly, the soap opera which brought together Enrique Gil & Liza Soberano has become a phenomenon.

The last time this happened to a show was in the prime years of GMA Telebabad via Encantadia. Their warehouse converted to a studio which housed the kingdom of Encantadia became a tourist attraction as well.

This is a good thing. It means that these shows have been effective in promoting our local attractions. We hope this can happen more and more.
