Maricar Reyes, Redeemed

She was one of the victims of Hayden Kho's video scandals and then Maricar Reyes became a household name when it exploded. But that was Maricar Reyes, emphasis on the past tense.

Today, the name Maricar Reyes does not anymore represent scandal but redemption. Indeed, this woman sure knows that no matter what happened in the past, there's still hope in the future. That no matter how deep one falls, there's still chance to surface and soar higher.

Just months after the scandal, ABS-CBN gave her an acting stint. She was able to pull it off better than expectation. Eventually, she emerged to be the aristocrat who knows how to act, the likes of Ms. Cherie Gil, an institution in Philippine showbiz.

Years after, it seems as if she's a totally redeemed person. Summer of 2011, she was seen attending a Christian conference called IGNITE with mostly young people/students participating in the event. It may have surprised them to see her there but at the same time rejoicing that she was there. Rejoicing because for people who saw her there, they may have thought that at least she was getting closer to God, she was establishing her faith despite what happened.

Maricar Reyes is regularly seen attending a Christian church where Richard Poon also attends in Greenhills. This church may have been the venue for their love story to blossom. In her recent interview with Kris Aquino on Kris TV, anyone could see how genuine their romantic relationship is. She would talk about God and how God brought her and Richard Poon together. A testament that her faith has indeed grew stronger.

Why write about her? Not because her star is shining brighter despite of. Not because of her love story with Richard Poon, which by the way is also worth writing especially when they're married already. TheOutsider wrote this because her story of redemption is worth the read.

In the typical Ws and 1H for news writing, we ask: WHO redeemed her? Some can say Richard Poon, for giving her an inspiration. But some can say Jesus, Maricar Reyes' self-confessed anchor of hope.

Whatever route you take, simply put, Maricar Reyes, redeemed.

P.S.: TheOutsider looks forward to seeing her take the lead and bag awards for future roles both on TV and silver screen. Her portrayal of her role in Be Careful With My Heart is excellent, she deserves more.
