Under-promoted shows Little Nanay & Because of You are actually Worth Watching

Funny how GMA Network's less promoted, less talked about prior to pilot episodes, and less hyped shows turn out to be the best soap operas for this year's lineup. We're talking about Little Nanay and Because of You.

Little Nanay, a realistic light but very heartwarming drama.

Pairing Bembol Roco & Superstar Nora Aunor as grannie couple is a perfect one. Their characters don't demand too much but their depth make it appear so realistic. Thanks to them, Kris Bernal gets surrounded with good acting atmosphere. Because of that, she pulls off her role as Tinay beyond expectation.

To date, this is Kris Bernal's most important role in her showbiz career. We sure hope she gets recognized for this one. If not through awards, at least through longer run of this show and sustainable and even surpassing ratings.

The supporting cast is but perfect for this show. This is like One True Love in terms of casting ensemble yet also less hyped.

If you want a show that would again touch your heart for real life situations aside from romance, watch this one! It actually is the most sensible soap opera on TV this season. No joke.

Because of You is one material perfect for Gabby Concepcion. It reminds us of Sir Chief in Be Careful with My Heart but with another flavor. He gives the role so much justice. It tells the networks that he can pull off a TV show.

But more than being a material for Gabby, this is the perfect material for Carla Abellana. She is perfect for romcom and this one is the best so far! Thanks to the writers who gave her another character different from the other shows she's done.

The direction of Mark Reyes is fit for the light and sometimes funny concept.

Watch an episode of this one and you'll find yourself quickly liking the character of Carla along with her friends played by Iya Villania-Arellano and Vaness del Moral.

If you want something funny yet still about love and not overdone, watch this primetime series. If only GMA Network can move it to an earlier timeslot as soon as Marimar ends, this would have been watched by a lot more viewers. It's easy to love.

So we have a question: what's up with GMA Drama? Why do they promote the wrong ones but lack promotional plans for the best ones like these two?

Marian Rivera's Replacement in The Richman's Daughter is...

Yesterday was a big shakeup for GMA Network as their Primetime Queen withdrew from her role as Jade in the upcoming soap opera The Richman's Daughter. While we are glad that the network was considerate to the pregnant artist, we also await the announcement as to who the able replacement will be.

No announcement has been made yet but rumor has it that Lovi Poe is being considered for the role. At this point, we would like to directly say that the role will not fit her. Add to that the fact that she is already lined up for a soap with Heart Evangelista which is more promising for her.

While it's still in the pipeline, we list down considerations in choosing the replacement.

*The replacement should have a name as well.
It can't be just anyone the network wants to popularize. It needs to be someone who has made a name for herself in showbiz through the years.

*The replacement should have a good acting portfolio.

*The replacement should be sweet-looking and not fierce.

And the replacement should be...
None other than Carla Abellana.
Popular. Great actress. Sweet.
The only challenge is for people to not identify her from My Husband's Lover.

Other names that may but can not.
Megan Young. Ms. World might not allow her.
Sarah Lahbati. The head writer Suzzette Doctolero might now agree due to an incident that happened in Amaya taping.
Solenn Heussaf. Tagalog might be a big struggle for her.
Ai-ai delas Alas kaya? Joke!

Again, we await the announcement.

The Challenge of My Husband's Lover

Tonight, a first on Philippine TV is airing its pilot episode. My Husband's Lover, a case of adultery committed by Lally's husband not with another woman but with a man.

Written by the infamous writer on GMA block Suzette Doctolero, My Husband's Lover stars Carla Abellana as Lally married to the character played by new recruit Tom Rodriguez. The 'kabit' is no other than Dennis Trillo.

While we agree that it's different as to what people behind it say, we also think that the viewing public ought to know that this is not at all a different story of almost every housewife's struggle. In fact, it's just the same at some point.

So the real challenge of the soap opera's team is not to show a different twist and a different concept. The real challenge is on how to make viewers intelligently realize that after all, there's only black and white and no gray area. That any type of unfaithfulness, be it committed with the opposite or same sex, is still unfaithfulness at the end of the day.

True, to most women, it will hurt more if it's the case of Lally's husband. Less hurting than what Marian Rivera's character experienced in Temptation of Wife. But again, both shows have a common denominator--sin in the form of adultery.

Sin comes in different forms. No such thing as smaller or bigger sin. Whatever form it has, it's sin. This is the challenge of the show... Not just to show that love is love no matter what form. But more than anything, to show that sin is sin no matter what form. That unfaithfulness is adultery no matter who's involved.

As this message gets out through the soap opera, here's hoping that it will create the same realization that Temptation of Wife presented when it ended... That adultery is and can never be dignified no matter what. True, their stories are worth hearing but never to be justified.

God bless the team of this show. Hoping that the show will not succumb to the demands of money to show gay scenes that may not be necessary in the story. Ms. Suzette Doctolero is better than that.
