The news on ABS-CBN and GMA Network tied for Best Station of the Year for PMPC Star Awards for TV is a joke.
The only reason why an awards night is watched out for is because the viewing public wants to hear from an esteemed award-giving body as to which of the battling parties won over the other as far as their point of view is concerned. Instead of fulfilling that goal, they resort to a neutral ground. It's not the first time they did this. It's not the only award they decided to have a tie award as well. Arjo Atayde and Arron Villaflor also tied at Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Role for Juan De La Cruz & Dugong Buhay respectively. This is another joke add to that is the fact that The Outsider never really liked the acting of Villaflor in the recently concluded Kapamilya primetime fantasy series.
What makes an award so prestigious is the reality of winning over the other. What makes it less prestigious is when the body decides to give the award to both parties who by the way are the only worthy competitors in the said award. True, there's TV5 but they still have to work their way in the prestige.
Kapuso fans would have loved it better to hear that their network won over the other. In the same way that Kapamilya fans would look forward to another season of PMPC Star Awards for TV if ABS-CBN bagged the best station alone.
Our suggestion, they might consider changing the name of Star Awards to Tie Awards. Otherwise, they will have to add a stipulation to their rules to have a veto power whenever there are ties.
At a time when award-giving bodies are not as prominent as before, they must reconsider their ways.
